Top 10 Tips for Camping with a Dog - Jet Cavoodle goes camping not once but two weekends in a row!

Most of you know that Jet Cavoodle is staying with my parents on the Sunshine Coast in Qld at the moment, just until we get a house organised and our belongings arrive from Singapore.  I'm missing him more and more, and will admit to waking up one morning and taking a glance over the edge of the bed to see what he was doing.  I'm comforted by knowing he's in good hands.

About a fortnight after I flew to Fiji for the first time my parents decided to go camping for the weekend.  Mum had mentioned this previously, we even chatted about where Jet might go for the weekend.  We have a list of wonderful Jet sitters who are happy to care for him.  So I'm in Fiji trying to re-create our life, mobile phone, bank accounts, house, car, that sort of thing. When I just sent this photo.

Therapy Dogs | What a difference Millie Cavoodle is making!

Therapy Dogs | What a difference Millie Cavoodle is making!

My beautiful daughter Lexi was born on the 24th of June. I didn't have a great pregnancy with her but I finally got my little girl after having 2 boys.

Lexi seemed to be a healthy happy baby with reflux. However, at the age of four months I started to worry a little as she wasn't even rolling and hated being on her tummy.   Our doctor put it down to reflux and the pressure on her tummy.  Then at six months of age she still wasn't rolling or even attempting to sit unsupported. When I looked at children the same age as her they all seemed so much more advanced than her so I went to the paediatrician again to be told she is just a lazy baby but to stop me from annoying him he sent us off to the local hospital for physio.

Introducing a Dog to a Baby? | How To

Introducing a Dog to a Baby? | How To
If I were to tell you that I were thankful for having broken my toe, you would probably think it were strange. Well, here is how an injury led me to where I am today.

In February 2013 after having kicked my foot on the coffee table, I was cooped up at home on the couch with a broken toe. How could something so small be so painful? But the physical pain of the break was only part of the hurt I was experiencing..... I was in a depressive episode.

Dog's Memory | Jet Cavoodle remembers everything after more than a year!

Dog's Memory | Jet Cavoodle remembers everything after more than a year!
It's been more than a year since Jet Cavoodle has been in Australia and the past week has just proved to me that's dog's memories are just amazing!  There's the usual stuff like:
  • Knowing who my Dad was when he collected him from the airport.
  • Knowing that Mum doesn't feed him in kitchen, she likes to do it in the laundry, so that's where he sat waiting.
  • Running down the front yard to his favourite tree for a tinkle.
  • Getting super excited when he saw his best mate Wally dog.

Yay to my first year of blogging & welcome to new readers!

Yay to my first year of blogging & welcome to new readers!
During the past year of blogging I've seen, spoken to, emailed and chatted on our forum to so many new people.  It's been amazing to meet so many of you and your oodles.  I wanted to share for our most recent followers some of our story so you can get to know us better.  Jet Cavoodle introduces himself here in my very first blog ever which was one year ago today.  Initially I didn't want to have a blog, thinking a forum was the answer for me.  I wanted a place for oodle owners to share information they'd learned and to ask questions if they wanted advice.

Jet Cavoodle makes it through quarantine in Australia!
Jet Cavoodle has spent the passed week in quarantine in Australia.  We flew him to Sydney rather than Melbourne because it's closer to Brisbane which is where he'll take his final flight to following quarantine. Now I can reveal why I was holding my breath for a very long 10 days.

12 Hours in the Crate & 10 Days Quarantine in Australia

12 Hours in the Crate & 10 Days Quarantine in Australia

Jet Cavoodle is left Singapore for Quarantine in Australia and this is how it went down....grab the tissues now!

Jet Cavoodle has traveled quite a few times before as most of you know. This time was much harder than all the previous trips because it involved quarantine.  None of Jet Cavoodle's previous flights included quarantine in Australia at the other end. When he flew into New Zealand and Singapore he entered, completed a brief inspection and was free to go straight to his new home.  Unfortunately this is not the case for heading back to Australia.

Jet Cavoodle is leaving Singapore tomorrow :(

Jet Cavoodle is leaving Singapore tomorrow :(

We're becoming experts in international pet transport, not because we want to, more out of necessity.  As you all know by now Jet Cavoodle has flown from the Sunshine Coast to Newcastle back to Qld, then to New Zealand back to Australia and has spent the last year in Singapore.  You could say he's well traveled.  We had no clue we'd be moving this much when we got Jet and if you look at the time line it was probably the worst time to bring a dog into our lives: we haven't stopped moving since.  But you know what, I wouldn't have it another way.

Jet Cavoodle last ever beach swim in Singapore!....cue big girl camera.

It's the time when things start getting real, we're starting to have a lots of lasts; at the pointy end of things.  We've moved a few times now so I definitely know how things go.  Amongst the mountain of paperwork and organising it's important to take a break each day and Jet Cavoodle provides the best distraction and reason to get out and about.

Jet Cavoodle is moving to Fiji!

Jet Cavoodle is moving to Fiji!
Just when we thought our life was finally settled, Mr MyOodle went and put a spanner in the works after receiving an offer to work in Fiji!  In about two weeks Jet Cavoodle will be boarding another plane and will say goodbye to Singapore and hello to Australia once again.   No, Jet won't be staying in Australia, it's just that Fiji only accepts animals via Australia, New Zealand and Honolulu.  They work on the premise those countries have strict quarantine guidelines, although still impose their own one week quarantine at the Fiji end they require all animals to go via one of these three countries. Jet Cavoodle is moving to Fiji!

Jet Cavoodle rides in taxis

Jet Cavoodle rides in taxis

While we'd lived in Singapore we haven't owned a car, it's much cheaper to take taxis.  Public transport is amazing and we live really close to a major shopping centre that has all the major conveniences.  When we do find the need for a longer trip and want to take Jet with us we order a taxi telling them he'll be coming with us and away we go.  I will admit the taxi drivers prefer dogs to be secured in a crate or to be sitting on the floor however I assure them Jet prefers my lap and is very well behaved....'just like a cuddly teddy bear' I say.  They relectantly agree and away we go. Usually within minutes the taxi driver is looking at Jet through the rearview mirror and commenting on how well behaved he is, which is always nice to hear.  I thought you might like to see how we roll in Singapore when it's time to head out and about.

Remedies for Itchy Pups with Allergies

Remedies for Itchy Pups with Allergies
Recently I asked what topics Oodle Owners wanted to hear about and Vera posted she'd love to hear about how to stop itch for pup with allergies.  Lucky for us or should I say Jet, this hasn't been an issue for us.  He's experienced skin issues but they didn't include itchiness.  You might remember Pepper Oodle from this story,  he suffers from itchy skin and his Mum has trialed and tested a number of solutions to help reduce the inflammation in his skin.  It's important to always consult you Vet in the first instance, there are just so many things that can cause skin itchiness and allergies in dogs.

Mystery Oodle | Finnegan's Rescue Story

Mystery Oodle | Finnegan's Rescue Story

Our journey toward loving an Oodle was a winding road.  I started thinking about getting a smaller dog to add to our home after meeting a friend’s Jack Russell Terrier. I loved his size and personality, but not so much with the shedding!  We already have an 85lb German Shepherd mix, and she sheds enough for 3 dogs!!  After researching no/low-shed breeds I started focusing on miniature poodle mixes, and began looking into the rescue organizations in our area (North Idaho, USA). My husband wasn’t thrilled at the idea of adding another pet to our brood, but reluctantly agreed.
