Australian Quarantine Entry Rules For Dogs Have Changed

Australian Quarantine Entry Rules For Dogs Have Changed

Before we moved Jet Cavoodle to Singapore I did a tonne of research about how to get him to Singapore but even importantly how to get him back to Australia. We always knew he would be returning with us and we wanted to know all the Australian quarantine requirements before we started.  The thought of Jet Cavoodle having to stay in quarantine was very much factored into our decision to bring him to Singapore or not.  When we first moved to Singapore Jet stayed with my parents.  Our first apartment was in the city and there wasn't much grass around or parks for him to visit, we weren't sure how long we'd be living in Singapore so he stayed for a while living with my parents on two acres on the Sunshine Coast in Qld, Australia.  I would travel back fairly often to see him, oops...my family and friends and I'd be in regular contact with Mum and Dad who were taking good care of him.

Homemade Dog Treats - Chicken Spearmint Fresh Breath

Homemade Dog Treats - Chicken Spearmint Fresh Breath

Chicken Dog Treats Are The Best

It is a beautiful cool Sunday morning.  The kind that makes me want to do everything for Toffee.  I brought him to the Bishan Park this morning for a good walk, said hello to other oodles and watched joggers, cyclists passed by.  On the way home, I decided to bake some healthy treats for him.

I am hesitant to buy treats off-the-shelves as I do not know exactly what goes in to the bag so I decided to bake!  So, I found a recipe for chicken dog treats, modified it a bit to include Spearmint as my neighbourr has tonnes of them growing organically in the backyard.

Welcome to MyOodle for 2014

Welcome to MyOodle for 2014
Hi EveryOodle and welcome to 2014.  I love the feel the Christmas and the New Year brings with it, the sharing, festivities, food and the spirit.  New Year always feels fresh, allows time for reflection and gives us the opportunity to start again.  After a very busy year creating MyOodle.com I was well and truly ready for a rest at the end of last year and honestly that felt good.  It meant my energy was used in a good way and it was time to renew.

Dogs and Fireworks on New Year's Eve

Dogs and Fireworks on New Year's Eve
New Year's Eve can be an enormous fun time for humans but our dogs can find it stressful particularly when there is fireworks in your area. Jet Cavoodle isn't too bothered by fireworks because he's had some practice.  When we lived in New Zealand each year they had one week where it was legal to let off fireworks.  This is was new for us and mostly definitely new for Jet.  After some research these were the tips I found that helped him be calm.

Bali Dog Outfits

Bali Dog Outfits
Bali has the cutest dog shop ever! Last week Mr MyOodle and I had a quick trip to Bali for a small pre-Christmas getaway.  Bali is only two and bit hours from Singapore and the budget airlines fly there regularly so it's the perfect place to pop over to for a getaway.  Anyway, while I was there I found something most unexpected and I just have to share it with you.  Check these cool Bali inspired dog coats, now there is a something in Bali you can bring home as gift for your dog. Apart from being cute, I liked them because they were t-shirt material and so not too hot.

Oodle Outing - Singapore December 2013

Ruffles Cavoodle, Natalie, Gizzy Cavoodle, Nikki, Buddy Cavoodle, The young Family, QQ, Melvin, Jet Cavoodle and myself all went to Bishan Park II for a play in the small dog area. It was great to see so many Oodles, there's nothing cuter than seeing a group of Oodles all together....thought I would add a heap of photos because they are just too cute and I couldn't choose. Enjoy!

Dog Training 101 - Helping!

Dog Training 101 - Helping!
Since Jet Cavoodle was little we've trained him using certain words.  There's the usual dog training words, like sit, stop, drop....and then there's our special words.  I really can't remember how 'helping' came about except to say that it happened naturally one day and I realised its benefit so I continued it with awesome effect right up until now.

How to Attack Tick Season Head On

How to Attack Tick Season Head On

Before we get to more fun Christmas posts I thought I would tackle the disgusting issue of ticks. Moving Jet Cavoodle to Singapore has bought with it some new and interesting challenges, we've had tummy upsets, skin issues, apartment living changes and most recently tick season started. The ticks found in Singapore are not paralysis ticks thankfully, like those found in Australia. In Singapore the number of ticks was just so overwhelming I've never dealt with anything like it. Initially I had no clue about ticks in Singapore and other than monthly pest control did no other preventative measures. That was until a few weeks ago when Jet Cavoodle had 30 ticks on him in one go!

I Eat Tissues - Does your dog eat tissues?

I Eat Tissues - Does your dog eat tissues?

Jet Cavoodle's obsession with tissues started quite early and progressively has gotten worse as he's gotten older. We had the toilet paper chewed and through the house when he was little and the odd handbag pulled apart in the search for goodies but the tissue obsession took things to a new level.  I remember it worsened about 4 years ago when we lived in New Zealand.  Really not sure why then but when we were out on walks it become like a sport for Jet Cavoodle to see how many he could track down and eat during our daily walks.  He's quite discerning, he doesn't go near anything that's not white and doesn't eat anything that is white but not tissue.  The totally gross part about it is once he's got the tissue there's no way I'm diving in to retrieve it.  Mr MyOodle takes a different approach and makes sure he doesn't eat it but not me I'm not touching a disgusting tissue with all its grossness.

Homemade Dog Treats!

Homemade Dog Treats!

This homemade dog treat recipe was given to me by a very dear friend many years ago when Jet Cavoodle was very little.  I wanted to give him the odd dog treat but didn't want it to have heaps of processed ingredients or preservatives.  I've adjusted the ingredients over the years depending on what I had available in the cupboard.

Usually I make them in the shape of a dog bone; being close to Christmas I decided it was time for the Christmas cutters to come out.

Oodle Outing - A Singapore Swim at the Beach

Oodle Outing - A Singapore Swim at the Beach

Today's Singapore Oodle Outing was small but momentous!  Jonas Schnoodle went for his first ever proper swim.  He's been to the beach twice before but never been swimming, he has just played on the shoreline.  It's was a hot morning here in Singapore at the East Coast Parkway and Jonas Schnoodle seemed pretty keen to get wet following Jet Cavoodle in and out of the water.

MyOodle Dog Photo Shoot Funnies

MyOodle Dog Photo Shoot Funnies

I've always loved photography and started a Diploma in Photography at one point but shortly after had to move so didn't get it finished.  This hasn't stopped me from filling many a hard drive with holiday snaps and more recently a tonne of Oodle photos.

Looking back at the photos of when Jet Cavoodle was little I so should have taken more.  Don't get me wrong I took a far few, but when I look back I can definitely see when I bought a new camera and then when my first iphone came on the scene....sadly that wasn't until last November.  Since MyOodle.com was born the number of photos has gone a little nuts; thousands of photos is not an exaggeration.

Jet Cavoodle's First Therapy Dogs Singapore Visit

Jet Cavoodle's First Therapy Dogs Singapore Visit

After passing the Temperament Test for Therapy Dogs Singapore we booked in for our first visit. I'm required to book in 4 visits in the next 6 months.  Unless we are traveling I plan to attend the monthly Friday session at a Nursing Home close by to where we live.  I'm told the week day sessions are harder to fill with Therapy Dogs as many of the owners work fulltime and because I can be flexible with work we can arrange to go to most of the Friday afternoon sessions.

I've always thought Jet Cavoodle would make a great therapy dog.  I'm not sure if you've heard of the idea, basically it's where dogs with the right temperament are allowed into Nursing Homes and Hospitals to interact with the residents and patients. There are proven benefits to for everybody involved.

Cavoodle Adoption | Cobi Cavoodle's Story

Cavoodle Adoption | Cobi Cavoodle's Story

At MyOodle.com we strongly encourage adoption and re-homing of any dog, especially Oodles. I know there was lots of reasons why dogs are given up and I'm not here to judge, though I'm not sure how anybody could ever give up an Oodle unless they were left with no choice. Recently, I asked Michelle if she would like to write Cobi's Adoption Story.  He has touched the hearts of many Oodle Owners in the past month, I thought you would be interested in his story.
